Bequests

By leaving the New Zealand Notable Trees Trust a gift in your Will, you are making a positive impact on the future of New Zealand’s unique tree heritage.

How to leave a gift in your Will

Writing a Will can seem daunting, and we advise you to speak your solicitor about it.
Include our full name, address and Charities Commission number – so that you can be sure the gift goes to the right place:

New Zealand Notable Trees Trust,
c/o 33 Cropp Place, Richmond, Nelson 7010, New Zealand
Charities Commission number: CC47387

A bequest can be made in your will. We recommend the following wording:-

A Specified Sum

This is a very common form of bequest. However, it is recommended that you review your will regularly, to safeguard against inflation. Otherwise, the real value of the gift may prove, by the time it is paid, to be worth less than you originally intended.
“I give the sum of [x] dollars ($[x]) to the New Zealand Notable Trees Trust; Charities Commission Number CC47387) to be used as the Trust in its discretion considers appropriate. A receipt taken by my executor [or trustee] as being given on behalf of the Trust will be a complete discharge to my executor [or trustee] for the legacy.”

A Percentage Bequest

This allows for a specific proportion of your estate to be given to the Trust. It ensures the gift is inflation proof, especially if your estate increases in value.
“I give a [x] percent (%) share of my estate to the New Zealand Notable Trees Trust (Charities Commission Number CC47387) to be used as the Trust in its discretion considers appropriate. A receipt taken by my executor [or trustee] as being given on behalf of the Trust will be a complete discharge to my executor [or trustee] for the legacy.”

A Residuary Bequest

You may wish to leave to NZNTT the remainder of your estate after other specified gifts have been deducted. This allows you to make provision for relatives and friends, then leave the remainder or a percentage of it to the Trust.

Gifts of Assets

Gifts of a home, farm, business property, or stocks and shares, allow the Trust to retain them as a capital investment or sell them to raise funds.
